Vegas casino resorts install detectors to detect smoke from vapers – report

Smokers know that smoke detectors in Las Vegas hotel rooms have become so sophisticated that it has become difficult to fool them by sneaking into the bathroom under the cover of steam from the shower. But now even vape users, whose devices emit less than a third the particles of cigarettes, have caught up.

Vape detectors are highly sensitive devices that scan the air for chemical signatures of tobacco and cannabis vape smoke specifically.

The anonymous Redditor, who identified the hotel only as the Las Vegas Casino Resort operated by Golden Entertainment, claimed his vaping resulted in an additional charge of $400. (The only casino resorts operated by Golden Entertainment in Las Vegas are the Strat and Arizona Charlie's.)

Like other invasive technologies, it's not going away any time soon – at least not without a successful lawsuit brought by a law firm specializing in data privacy and consumer rights.
