Las Vegas Crime News Roundup: Recent Murders Plague Area

Homicide detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) have been handed a full-time relief investigation after investigating several homicides in and around Las Vegas in recent days.

In one case, a man in Las Vegas was arrested for killing his ex-wife's girlfriend and seriously injuring his ex-wife, according to news reports.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. Friday, both women were shot in a car near the intersection of Blanton and Sachs drives, with authorities believing the shooter was out of jealousy.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Adrian Rodriguez-Guillen, allegedly drove up to the women's vehicle.

He got out of his car and then allegedly shot two women. The ex-wife's girlfriend died at the scene.

According to police, the ex-wife was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for treatment of her wounds and is expected to recover.

After the shooting, Rodriguez-Guillen called the police department to report the crime. He remained at the scene until officers arrived.

Rodriguez-Guillen has reportedly been charged with open murder and attempted murder. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Friday, where he remains behind bars as of Sunday. No bail was set. He appeared in court over the weekend.

If found guilty on the charges, he could face several years in prison.

Minor arrested on charges of murders

Recently three separate minors were arrested on murder charges in unrelated cases.

On Friday, 16-year-old Arnaaz Jones was arrested and charged with murder in the killing that happened last Sunday in North Las Vegas.

The fatal shooting happened at an apartment on East Centennial Parkway.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Corey Dennis. He was hit in the stomach and died after some time.

Jones was sought by police last week and officers described him as “armed and extremely dangerous.”

Eventually, he was tracked down and captured. He was booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center. Jones was charged with open murder.

On Monday, a 12-year-old girl appeared in juvenile court for allegedly stabbing her father to death at their North Las Vegas home on Mercury Street on Dec. 27. He was also accused of open murder. The victim was identified as 55-year-old James Waldie.

A GoFundMe page said he had been “battling stage four cancer for four years straight.”

We never believed she would be capable of committing such a terrible crime,” a relative said on the fundraising website.

Additionally, a 15-year-old Las Vegas boy appeared in juvenile court on Monday. He was also charged with murder for allegedly shooting his father to death at his Tampa Court home.

The father was identified as 45-year-old Jeremy Peterson. Police said an argument broke out between the two in which other family members also joined.

On Thursday, a man was shot and killed near train tracks near West Owens Avenue and Stocker Street in Las Vegas.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified and the shooter is still at large.

In addition to these murders, the LVMPD played a major role in the investigation of the explosion that occurred in front of the Trump International Hotel on New Year's Day. The suspect shot himself and died. Seven other people suffered minor injuries.
