What punishment will players get for breaking discipline?
The Indian Premier League has become very strict regarding the discipline of players on the field in its 2025 season. Now the code of conduct of International Cricket Council (ICC) will be followed in IPL. This important decision was taken in the Governing Council (GC) meeting held on Sunday. Under this, players will be punished as per ICC rules for violations of Level 1, 2 and 3.
A member of the Governing Council said, “From now on, the ICC's T20 International Playing Conditions will be followed in the IPL. Earlier the league had its own rules, but now the code of conduct set by the ICC will be implemented.”
Controversies happened in the last season
Last season, a case was registered against 10 players for violating the code of conduct. The most discussed case was that of Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana. He broke the rule by giving a flying kiss to Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Mayank Agarwal after dismissing him. For this he was fined 60% of the match fee.
Apart from this, Harshit also committed a violation against Delhi Capitals, in which his celebration was considered “too aggressive”. For this he was fined 100% of his match fee and was suspended from the next match. Despite this, Harshit became the highest wicket taker among the uncapped bowlers in this IPL 2024.
