Jeremy Ausmus wins PGT Championship $1 million freeroll

Jeremy Ausmus finished the 2024 PokerGO Tour (PGT) season in style. On Saturday, he won the PGT Championship $1 Million Freeroll Tournament at PokerGO Studios in Las Vegas, just a day after announcing his PGT Player of the Year award.

His win earned him $500,000 in prize money. With this success, the six-time WSOP bracelet winner has increased his live tournament winnings to over $23.8 million.

50 participants, six big prize money

The two-day tournament began with 50 participants, of which only the best six players ultimately received prize money. The first day of the tournament on Friday, January 10, 2025, ended with Kristen Foxen (Canada) finishing seventh, narrowly missing the $40,000 prize for sixth place.

Dylan Weisman entered the race as the chip leader, while Jeremy Ausmus and Nick Schulman had to start with the shortest stack.

Turbulent finale in Las Vegas

The first stage of the final table match was full of chaos. Jim Collopy lost his entire stack at the start and had to settle for sixth place and a comparatively low prize money of $40,000.

Soon after, Chris Hunnichen was eliminated and received $60,000. Dylan Weisman, who started the day as the chip leader, also lost all of his chips a short time later. For the American, it meant fourth place and an $80,000 bonus.

A key moment of the tournament finally came when Kelvin Anderson put everything on the line on one card with a weak hand, J♠ 5♣. Jeremy Ausmus held K♠ K♦ as the big blind and was the clear favorite. Ausmus did not disappoint and Anderson had to settle for $120,000 and third place. This led to a face-to-face duel between Ausmus and Shulman.

In the final duel, Ausmus showed his best side. With a huge chip lead, he immediately put Shulman under pressure. The decision came when Shulman bluffed with a hand of 8♣ 5♠ and went all-in. On the table were J♠ 9♦ 7♦ 2♣ and 7♣. Ausmus saw through the deception, made the right decision and called with K♦ 9♣. Shulman certainly didn't have a bad day – after all, he won $200,000 despite the loss.
